Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Micah Abernathy celebrated making the Green Bay Packers' 53-man roster on Tuesday.
It was a great story for a player who has bounced around various practice squads in the NFL over the last few years (he also spent some time in the USFL).
The celebration, however, was short-lived.
On Wednesday, the Packers released Abernathy in favor of Rudy Ford, a player that Green Bay claimed off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Abernathy seemingly reacted to the move via Twitter.
That's a stark reminder for Abernathy that the NFL is a business and feelings often get hurt.
But it's not all bad news for Abernathy. The Packers indicated that they would like to sign the former Vols safety to their practice squad.
That's obviously not the outcome Abernathy wanted — especially just a day after thinking he made the Packers' 53-man roster. But having a job in the NFL is better than not having a job in the NFL. Abernathy could still get a chance to contribute this season if one of the safeties on the 53-man roster suffers an injury or struggles.
