Former Tennessee Vols tight end Princeton Fant didn't hear his name called during the 2023 NFL Draft.
Fant, however, is still heading to the NFL.
The former Vol told VolQuest's Austin Price that he's signing an undrafted free agent deal after not being selected this weekend.
According to Price, Fant is signing with the Dallas Cowboys.
Fant didn't put up gaudy numbers at Tennessee (though he did score five touchdowns in 2022 after not scoring any touchdowns his previous four seasons at UT), but he proved to be an important player for the Vols — especially during the Josh Heupel era.
It's an overused phrase in sports, but Fant truly was a Swiss army knife for Tennessee this past season. The Vols would line Fant up at tight end or fullback, often using him in goal line situations when Tennessee would scrap their up-tempo spread look for a condensed formation under center.
One memorable moment for the Vols this past season came when Tennessee lined up under center in an I-formation against Alabama and handed the ball to Fant, who was lined up as a fullback, for the touchdown run.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban later said that his team was confused because they weren't used to seeing a team line up in the I formation.
Fant, who also threw a touchdown to Jalin Hyatt in 2022, will have an uphill battle ahead of him to make the Cowboys' roster, but his ability to be used in a variety of ways could help him stick in Dallas.
