Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Velus Jones Jr received a fun compliment this week.

Madden ratings were revealed on Monday and it was noted that Jones is among the fastest rookies in this year's version of the popular game.

Jones, who was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, is the fifth fastest rookie in Madden 23.

Here are the top five rookies and their speed ratings:

  • 1. Jameson Williams — WR — Detroit Lions — 98
  • 3. Tyquan Thornton — WR — New England Patriots — 95
  • 3. Calvin Austin III — WR — Pittsburgh Steelers95
  • 5. Velus Jones Jr — WR — Chicago Bears — 94
  • 5. Danny Gray — WR — San Francisco 49ers — 94

Jones actually had a faster 40-yard dash time at the combine than Austin and Gray. Thornton, however, beat Jones by 0.03 seconds.

Williams, of course, didn't run the 40-yard dash due to his torn ACL. But considering what we saw from him before his injury, I don't think anyone will complain about him being the fastest rookie this year.

Jones should have plenty of opportunities to shine as a rookie with the Bears. Chicago doesn't have a lot of depth at wide receiver, which means Jones could quickly slot in as the Bears' No. 2 or No. 3 wide receiver in 2022.
