The Tennessee Vols are almost certainly going to add several defensive transfer players to their roster this offseason.

Tennessee has some exciting young defensive talent on the roster, but they have several holes to address, too.

The Vols could specifically use a safety (or two), a linebacker, and several defensive linemen.

Former Tennessee defensive back is one of the top safeties in the transfer portal

Safety is a very important position in new UT defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defense. With the Vols’ lack of depth at safety, it’s highly likely that it will be one of the top positions that Tennessee targets in the transfer. portal.

Interestingly, one of the top transfer safeties available is former Vols defensive back Christian Harrison, the son of former NFL Pro Bowl safety Rodney Harrison.

Harrison spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee before transferring to Cincinnati ahead of the 2025 season.

The Georgia native totaled 66 tackles, seven passes defensed, and one interception with the Bearcats last season. In two seasons at Tennessee, Harrison totaled 31 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and a half sack (Harrison played in 24 games at UT with four starts).

Should the Vols reunite with Christian Harrison?

It was a bit of a surprise when Harrison transferred from Tennessee following the Vols’ loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff last season.

We haven’t seen Tennessee reunite with a transfer player during the Josh Heupel era. Harrison, though, could make sense for the Vols. He obviously knows the program well and he clearly got better at Cincinnati in 2025.

With the Vols set to roll out a new defense in 2025 — one that’s sent plenty of defensive backs to the NFL — it could be worth giving Harrison a call to see if he’d like to return to Rocky Top.
