The commitment on Monday by 2025 5-star QB George MacIntyre to the Tennessee Vols was a major one for Josh Heupel. The quarterback position in Knoxville appears in good hands for many years to come, with a tremendous option set to join current starter Nico Iamaleava in 2025 and give the Vols one of the most intriguing QB rooms in the country.
The fallout from that has already begun as far as capturing the attention of other big name recruits. That's come both from MacIntyre reaching out to recruits and from other recruits reaching out to him about coming to Knoxville.
On Monday night, MacIntyre took a shot at two of the most highly-ranked wide receiver recruits in the country for the 2025 class in Caleb Cunningham and Jaime Ffrench, Jr.
Cunningham is a 5-star wide receiver from Ackerman, Mississippi (Choctaw County High School). On3 Sports lists Ackerman as the top player in Mississippi and the #2 wide receiver in the country. Being less than 25 miles from Starkeville, it's not surprising to see him listed as a heavy Mississippi State lean. Ole Miss also appears to be a player for his services.
Right behind him is Ffrench, the #3 overall receiver per On3 Sports and the #2 player in Florida. The Mandarin High School (Jacksonville) wideout was committed to Alabama, but de-committed after Nick Saban announced his retirement. However, Alabama remains a strong candidate for Ffrench, along with Florida State. Ffrench mentioned his QB Tramell Jones being an FSU commit being a factor as well.
So while Tennessee has a new intriguing player in MacIntyre to help sell the Vols to these two highly-rated prospects, it will take some serious work from Heupel and his staff to make inroads and compete with schools that already have a leg up on them.
Fortunately, they might at least have a better shot at getting their foot in the door now, thanks to their newest commitment.
