A key Tennessee Vols player should have some added motivation for this weekend’s matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.
VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Tuesday and he detailed why Vols senior defensive lineman Tyre West could be extra motivated to beat Georgia on Saturday.
Price explained that West was once committed to Georgia before flipping to Tennessee after the Bulldogs “cut him loose”.
“How motivated is a guy like Tyre West, who was committed to Georgia for over a year — four years ago — and Georgia cut him loose,” said Price. “He ended up at Tennessee. This is his last go-around against the Bulldogs.”
West, who is from Tifton, GA (three hours south of Athens), was a four-star recruit as a high school player (247Sports had him as the No. 27 defensive lineman in the 2022 recruiting class). He flipped his commitment from Georgia to Tennessee during the early signing period in late 2021.
Tennessee Vols are dealing with some injuries along the defensive line
West should definitely have plenty of opportunities to prove a point against Georgia on Saturday. The Volunteers are dealing with some injuries along the defensive line. Junior Daevin Hobbs, who hasn’t played yet this season, isn’t expected to play against Georgia.
It’s unclear if senior Jaxson Moi, who suffered an injury in the Vols’ season-opening win against Syracuse, will be active against the Bulldogs.
West has totaled 45 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and seven sacks during his career with the Volunteers. Tennessee could certainly use a big game from the Georgia native on Saturday.
