The Tennessee Vols and Georgia Bulldogs renew their rivalry on Saturday afternoon inside Neyland Stadium. There’s a feeling coming into the game among Vol fans that this could be Tennessee’s best shot at upending the Bulldogs since their last win in the series back in 2016.

As such, the atmosphere at Neyland should be absolutely electric on Saturday. And for Vol fans looking for reason to cheer even louder, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton just delivered some motivation – although with some praise included as well. Stockton appeared on the I Am Athlete podcast, and he ranked the top three loudest environments he’s played in, and Tennessee was almost at the top.

Stockton ranks Neyland Stadium as the second loudest atmosphere he’s played in

Stockton admitted he hasn’t played at LSU, but had heard it’s loud, as well as Texas A&M. But for the ones he’s been to, he has a top three of Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama.

“I’d probably say Auburn was pretty loud two years ago, Tennessee was loud, and Alabama was loud,” Stockton said. “That game two years ago (at Auburn) where it was close and Brock Bowers, he just took the game over.”

Auburn certainly is an electric SEC environment, as are many across the conference. But the biggest games in recent years have involved Alabama, and many players have come from that game talking about the atmosphere in 2022, when the Vols when 52-49, as the loudest they’ve ever been in. Crimson Tide play-by-play radio host Chris Stewart made a comment about crowd noise being pumped into the speakers in Neyland Stadium in last year’s game before backtracking on those remarks days later.

Being the second loudest environment on someone’s list is nothing to sneeze at. But Tennessee fans feel as though no environment is more intimidating than Neyland Stadium. Georgia, to their credit, has handled Josh Heupel two of his four home losses as we enter the meat of his fifth season in Knoxville.

We’ll see on Saturday if Vol fans can find another gear and reach Alabama-game level noise to try to help the Vols end an 8-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.
