Grant Williams went on Jeff Teague’s Club 520 Podcast and he immediately had to issue an apology for something he said
The former Tennessee Vols basketball star had to walk back some comments he made on the Club 520 Podcast.
Former Tennessee Vols standout Grant Williams was a guest on the Club 520 Podcast, which is co-hosted by former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague, this week.
Williams, who currently plays for the Charlotte Hornets, discussed a wide variety of topics, from his time at Tennessee under Rick Barnes to playing in the “bubble” during COVID to the recent fight between the Hornets and the Detroit Pistons.
It was the bubble talk that led to comments from Williams that he later apologized for.
Grant Williams apologizes for claim about LeBron James in the bubble
At one point during the podcast, Williams was asked about his experience in the NBA bubble in Florida in 2020 (22 NBA teams were invited to the bubble in 2020 for seeding games and the playoffs…in order to finish the season that was paused several months before).
Williams mentioned that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James had his own house on the campus.
It was a claim that co-host Bishop “B Hen” Henn said he had also heard.
Williams took to social media several hours after the podcast was posted, after some pushback from Markieff Morris (who was also in the bubble), to apologize for speaking with “inaccurate information”.
“The whole team was in the hotel,” tweeted Williams. “Bron had a room as well. At the time it was communicated that he had the room as well as a house on campus. I spoke with that knowledge but I’ll say publicly I was wrong and spoke with inaccurate information.”
Williams’ comments weren’t anything crazy — he repeated some information he was told that later turned out to not be true. That’s something that happens every day in workplaces across the country. Unfortunately for Williams, his workplace is a little different than the average person’s.
But hey, it happens. No big deal.
Williams’ appearance on the podcast, by the way, was terrific. It’s definitely worth a listen if you’re a Vols fan and want to hear some fun stories about Rick Barnes from Williams.
