It’s a homecoming — well, at least of sorts — for former Tennessee Vols quarterback and fan favorite Hendon Hooker.

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the VFL is signing a deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Former Tennessee Vols QB Hendon Hooker signing with the Titans

Hooker joins a Titans QB room that is led by 2025 No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward, followed by Mitchell Trubisky, Will Levis, and Brandon Allen. As the team’s franchise quarterback, Ward is entrenched as the starter, and Trubisky has shown himself to be a capable backup across a nine-year career. So, the competition will not be easy for Hooker in Nashville.

However, it’s still an opportunity, and Hooker will get the chance to compete for a roster spot this offseason after a shaky start to his NFL career.

Hooker was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He was still dealing with recovery from an ACL tear in his rookie season, but he never could get his sea legs under him in the Motor City, getting waived as part of the Lions’ attempt to get down to 53 players after the preseason last year. He caught on with the Panthers and Jets’ practice squads, getting promoted to New York’s active roster for the season finale.

It’s a welcome return to the Volunteer State for the man who helped Tennessee take a massive step forward as a program in 2022. Hooker threw for 3155 yards with 27 touchdowns and two interceptions while leading Tennessee to a 9-2 record as a starter.
