Tennessee Vols true freshman offensive tackle David Sanders Jr has yet to take the field this season.
Sanders, a former five-star recruit who was rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class, suffered an injury in practice a few days before Tennessee’s season-opener against Syracuse (he’s believed to be dealing with a shoulder/nerve injury).
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jesse Perry moved from right guard to right tackle in the first four games of the season with Sanders out (redshirt sophomore Shad Umarov moved into the starting lineup at guard with Perry bumping out to tackle).
Vols insider shares the latest injury update on Tennessee offensive tackle David Sanders Jr
VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Tuesday for his weekly appearance and he shared the latest update on Sanders’ injury.
“I was told last week that things had improved,” said Price. “Like, when you start doing strength tests and all of that type of stuff, that it had gotten better. It wasn’t to the point of playing, but it had gotten better. So does he see more improvement this week that gets him to the field? Probably not this week — because I’m not sure they’re throwing him out there on the road in his first game. But [it’s improved] to the point where, alright, he’s back post bye week.”
Based on that comment from Price, it sounds unlikely that Sanders will be on the field against Mississippi State in Starkville this weekend.
As Price noted, the Vols are off the Saturday after the Mississippi State game. Tennessee will return to action on October 11 for a home game against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
