Could the Tennessee Vols have a future No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick on their roster?

247Sports’ Tom Loy believes that could be the case — even though the player he’s talking about hasn’t even played in a college game yet.

Recruiting analyst thinks Vols 5-star signee Faizon Brandon could eventually be the top pick in the NFL Draft

Loy shared his thoughts this week on Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting class (which is ranked No. 7 in the nation), and it sounds like he’s quite bullish on Vols five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon.

Loy suggested that Brandon could be a potential Heisman Trophy winner and a future No. 1 overall pick if he reaches his ceiling at Tennessee.

“Faizon Brandon is a special talent, one who is just scratching the surface of how good he’s going to be at the next level,” wrote Loy. “The 6-4, 200-pounder is elite in every sense of the word….Long term, I fully believe he’s a guy who will take college football by storm in the coming years. I see a potential Heisman winner and possibly the No. 1 overall pick one day if he reaches his potential and ceiling. He’s wired the right way, he’s ready for the spotlight, and he’s going to be incredible in college.”

Brandon, 6-foot-4/200 pounds from Greensboro, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The North Carolina native has the physical attributes to be an elite SEC player. Brandon is also a winner — he led Grimsley High School to back-to-back state championships. And, as Loy noted, Brandon is “wired the right way“.

The five-star quarterback’s high-level leadership skills combined with his elite skillset certainly gives him a legitimate chance to be the best player in the nation.

Brandon will likely serve in a backup role as a true freshman for the Vols in 2026. But it won’t be a surprise if he quickly pushes for playing time at the next level — he’s that kind of talent.
