“I’ve still got a lot of belief in our football team” — Titans head coach Brian Callahan sounds like he’s trying to convince himself as much as his fan base that he’s capable of winning games after double digit loss to Los Angeles Rams

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans (0-2) do not win games under current head coach Brian Callahan. After Sunday’s Week 2 33-19 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Rams (2-0), Callahan’s record at the helm is 3-16.
Of the six coaches the franchise has had in the “Titans Era” (1999-present), only Ken Whisenhunt (3-23) has had a worse record across multiple seasons.
Callahan’s Titans have meaningfully improved nowhere in 19 games
Special teams under recently hired coordinator John Fassel looks like it might be the only thing that’s gotten better.
Even that unit had to be historically awful in Callahan’s first season under first-time coordinator Colt Anderson (fired after 2024) before it could become marginally competent. The only thing Tennessee can be counted on for during the head coach’s tenure is that they will play a game in which they inevitably nuke themselves and lose. High-volume penalties and quarterback sacks have become the hallmark of a Callahan-coached team.
Imagine knowing that your football team’s identity is flat-out losing.
“It’s something that I’m still trying to figure out,” said Callahan specifically of the 10 penalties his team committed on Sunday. “I think we had a couple of false starts today. We had just an illegal lineman down field on the first drive, which is, you’ve just got to come flatter on the screen play. Just things that are frustrating, very frustrating to be in that spot. It’s obviously something that we had a problem with last year. It was a problem before. It’s still a problem, and we’re trying like hell to get it fixed. So far, we haven’t been successful doing that.”
That’s the thing about Brian Callahan, no one doubts that he’s genuine in his efforts.
I know that he agonizes over it. I know that he is keenly aware he and his staffs jobs are on the line. Yet, week after week, Callahan’s Titans stack the losses.
An 0-2 start to a season is not the end of the world, but is anyone really still convincing themselves that this staff can stop the bleeding?
