Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Jerod Mayo, who was introduced as the new head coach of the New England Patriots on Wednesday, hit owner Robert Kraft with a "dad joke" after he was drafted by the Patriots in 2008.
Kraft told the anecdote on Wednesday during Mayo's introductory press conference.
"I first met Jerod in 2008 after we drafted him 10th overall out of the University of Tennessee," said Kraft. "On that day we introduced him to the media and I remember him immediately coming up to me and saying 'Kraft and Mayo, they go together pretty well'".
Mayo was right — the partnership between the former Vol and the Patriots proved to be fruitful. Mayo played for New England from 2008 to 2015 and was a team captain during seven seasons. He returned in 2019 as the Patriots' linebackers coach was Kraft's handpicked replacement for legendary head coach Bill Belichick.
