Over the last 15 years, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden was rumored to be interested in becoming the head coach of the Tennessee Vols on a couple of different occasions.
Gruden confirmed earlier this year that he was interested in the Tennessee job, but he never really came close to pulling the trigger on taking the job (nor is there any evidence he was ever offered the job).
While Gruden is content to be just a fan of the Vols these days, he actually is going to be involved with football in the state of Tennessee.
The Nashville Kats, which are part of the Arena Football One (AF1) league, announced on Monday that Gruden is joining the ownership group as a partner.
From the Nashville Kats: Longtime NFL and Super Bowl winning coach Jon Gruden has become a Partner with the Nashville Kats and their ownership group Fisher Football Ventures LLC. Kats President and Partner Jeff Fisher made the announcement today that Gruden will be a Partner with consulting and advisory roles in all aspects of the team’s football and business operations.
“The Nashville Kats and the Arena Football 1 league are very excited to have someone with Jon’s experience and expertise and success to not only be part of the ownership but also take an active role in a variety of ways within the organization,” said Kats president (and former Tennessee Titans head coach) Jeff Fisher in a statement.
Fisher also serves as the commissioner of AF1.
“I have been a fan of indoor football for a long time and jumped at the opportunity to be involved with Jeff and the Nashville Kats as part of the ownership group,” said Gruden in a statement. “I have so much respect for what Jeff has done over his career and continues to do with the Nashville Kats and as commissioner of AF1. I’m excited to be part of the team.”
The Kats are currently 3-2. Their next game is on the road against the Albany Firebirds on Saturday.
Gruden currently works as an internet personality for Barstool Sports.
