Former NFL head coach/Barstool Sports personality Jon Gruden referenced a Tennessee Vols win from the Johnny Majors era while talking some trash during a recent appearance on Mostly Sports With Mark Titus & Brandon Walker.

Host Brandon Walker, a Mississippi State fan, asked Gruden if he’s a fan of Starkville, to which Gruden quickly replied that he’s not.

"No, I didn't," said Gruden when asked if he enjoyed his past visits to Starkville. "I said to myself 'Why would anybody have a cowbell and ring it?' I went to a Tampa Bay Rays major league playoff game and people were doing the cowbells. I left in the fourth f—ing inning."

"I went down there (Starkville) with the Tennessee Volunteers and we whooped your ass," added Gruden. "The highlight of Mississippi State is an egg bowl win. That's their highlight."

Gruden, who served as a graduate assistant at Tennessee under Majors from 1986 to 1987, is referencing the Vols' win against Mississippi State in Starkville in 1987.

Tennessee beat Mississippi State 38-10 in 1987 on their way to a 10-2 season.

Gruden, who met his wife (a former Vols cheerleader) while serving as a graduate assistant at Tennessee, has always been fond of the Big Orange.

Whether it's flirting with the idea of taking over as Tennessee's head coach or praising the Vols on a national broadcast, Gruden always has some favorable things to say about Rocky Top.
