Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols missed on a key NCAA transfer portal target this weekend.
Tennessee was one of the programs in the mix for BYU transfer wide receiver Keelan Marion, but the coveted transfer won't be playing on Rocky Top in 2025.
Marion committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday.
VolQuest's Brent Hubbs noted on Friday, during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone's Ramon, Kayla, and Will, that Tennessee is "clearly" looking for a transfer wide receiver.
"Clearly Tennessee is looking for a receiver," said Hubbs. "They're trying to find another body, another person, to go into that young receiver room. I think that you don't really want to get a guy who's of the same makeup, or has the same resumé as what you have. And what I mean by that is you don't want a second year guy [who is] looking to burst onto the scene. You want somebody who's established, who's got a little tread on the tires."
Tennessee was also reportedly interested in Georgia State wide receiver Ted Hurst.
Hurst, however, is reportedly staying at Georgia State despite overtures from Power-4 programs.
McNeese State wide receiver Jer'Michael Carter is expected to visit Tennessee on Sunday as the Vols' transfer options continue to dwindle.
Former Alabama player may be partially responsible for Tennessee’s James Pearce not getting selected higher in the 2025 NFL Draft
Well that’s unfortunate for James Pearce
