Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel understands that there are some fans who think something must be wrong after UT's ugly 30-13 win against Austin Peay on Saturday.

But while Heupel understands the concerns, he also wants fans to know that it only takes one or two players not doing their job on a particular play for things to go quickly south.

Heupel discussed the rough night for the offense during The Josh Heupel Show after the win against Austin Peay.

"I know for our fans, it seems like there's gotta be something that's major off," explained Heupel. "It's really small details that make the difference in the game. You gotta be on the right side of it. That's the great thing and the tough thing about being in a competitive arena is the margins for error are really tiny."

Heupel mentioned in his post-game press conference on Saturday night that there were numerous plays where Tennessee was a player or two away from success.

"Offensively, efficiency and effectiveness, right, like it takes 11 guys operating as one and there were times tonight where we’re one or two guys off," said Heupel after the 17-point win. "So that’s how it ends up looking a little bit like it did tonight. I believe in our guys. Believe in our staff. Believe in what we’re doing. We’ll continue to get better.”

It's clear that Heupel doesn't believe there are major issues present for the Vols on the offensive side of the ball. And considering how efficiently we've seen Tennessee's offense operate over the last year — with both Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton at quarterback — it's more than fair to chalk Saturday's performance against Austin Peay up to a bad night for the Vols and a good night for the Governors football program.

And anytime a bad night for a football team results in a win, it's still a good night.

Tennessee, however, knows they have to get better before a massive showdown with the Florida Gators in the Swamp on Saturday night.

"Urgency in how we come back tomorrow afternoon and on Monday I think is absolutely critical for us," noted Heupel after the win against Austin Peay. "I’ll say this — I didn’t feel like we were unfocused last week. We’ve got to take strides. Obviously the environment will be a good one next week and a good quality opponent."

Tennessee and Florida kick off at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday night.
