Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel wasted no time sending fans a message about UT’s starting quarterback battle this wek.

The Vols are set to feature a three-man quarterback this spring and fall between redshirt freshman George MacIntyre, true freshman Faizon Brandon, and Colorado transfer Ryan Staub.

MacIntyre is viewed as the favorite to win the job, but Brandon is very much in the mix, too. Staub can’t be ruled out either.

Josh Heupel sends message to Vols fans about the starting quarterback battle

Heupel met with reporters on Monday as spring practice gets underway for the Volunteers.

While speaking with reporters, Heupel was quick to reiterate that Tennessee’s quarterback competition is “open”.

Heupel also said that fans shouldn’t expect a starter to be named during spring practice, which means this battle will continue into the fall.

It’s clear that Heupel isn’t in a rush to figure out who his starting quarterback will be this fall — he’s going to let this thing fully play out.

We may hear that one of Tennessee’s quarterbacks is standing out during spring practice, but that won’t necessarily be an indication that this quarterback battle is trending in a specific direction.
