Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel was asked about his thoughts on where UT is ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings this week and he offered a response that will get fans on Rocky Top fired up.
Heupel, who claimed he didn't know where Tennessee fell in the rankings because he didn't watch the reveal show on Tuesday night, didn't seem too concerned about whether or not the Vols will host a playoff game in Neyland Stadium (UT is currently projected to play at Ohio State in the first round).
The fourth-year Tennessee head coach made it clear that the Vols are prepared to play anyone at any location.
"Listen, we control what we control," said Heupel on Wednesday. "We don't have a game before the final rankings come out. There's a lot of football to be played yet. But if you're not of the mindset going into this thing, of anyone, anywhere, anytime, then you're just there to have a cup of coffee anyway. So, this is a highly competitive group. We'll play where we play, we'll play who we play. Let's go put the ball down."
You can't ask for a better response from the head coach if you're a Vols fan. Heupel isn't worried about politicking his way into a home game or a favorable matchup. Instead, his sole focus is on competing and not worrying about things his team can't control (like seeding).
It's an elite approach from Heupel and his staff. We'll see if that approach pays off in the coming weeks when post-season play gets underway.
