A lot of folks thought Friday night would be the final game of 2026 Tennessee Vols five-star quarterback commit Faizon Brandon's junior season.
Instead, Brandon and his teammates at Grimsley High School have one more game on the agenda — next Friday night (December 20) against Rolesville for a North Carolina state championship.
Grimsley was down 17-7 at one point on Friday night against Weddington, but thanks in large part to a big second half from Brandon, the Whirlies were able to rally for a 35-23 win.
Brandon threw three long touchdown passes in the second half — 39 yards, 45 yards, and 55 yards — to help Grimsley pull out the win.
Brandon, 6-foot-4/197 lbs from Greensboro, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
The dynamic quarterback is the crown jewel of the Vols' 2026 recruiting class. He's a player that has the talent to help Tennessee dominate in the second half of the 2020's — you know, a decade that former UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt once said was going to be the "decade of the Vols".
Pruitt was fired not long after making that comment, but in hindsight, it might have been more prophetic than anyone realized at the time.
