One of the Tennessee Vols' top players could be in danger of missing UT's game against the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend.
Junior wide receiver Squirrel White suffered an upper body injury in the Vols' loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks earlier this season. White was seen wearing a sling after the Arkansas game, but he played in Tennessee's wins against Florida and Alabama despite the injury (White played just 27 of 76 offensive snaps against Alabama).
VolQuest's Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone's Ramon, Kayla, and Will on Tuesday to discuss the latest happenings with Tennessee athletics. Price noted that the expectation is that White will attempt to play against Kentucky, while adding that he wouldn't be shocked if the junior wide receiver isn't able to play.
"As for Squirrel, we'll see," said Price. "It wouldn't shock me at all if he didn't play this weekend, but I do think the hope is for him to play this weekend. But at the same time, he's just got some of those nagging injuries. I'm not sure he's going to get healthy until the offseason. So I guess it depends on how he's feeling week to week."
If White isn't able to play, true freshman wide receiver Mike Matthews could be in line to see more playing time. Vols head coach Josh Heupel told reporters on Monday that Tennessee needs Matthews to be a "big part" of the Vols' offense in the back half of the season.
We'll have a better idea of White's status for the Kentucky game on Wednesday when the SEC injury report comes out.
White has 20 receptions for 230 yards so far this season. His 20 receptions are tied with Bru McCoy for the team lead.
