A key Tennessee Vols player announced this weekend that he's returning to UT for his final season of eligibility.
Safety Jaylen McCollough posted a message on Instagram over the weekend announcing his intentions to return to Tennessee in 2023.
And he's returning because he wants to bring a couple of championships to Knoxville next season.
"When I committed to this University, I made a decision to give my ALL for Tennessee," wrote McCollough. "I came here fully on a mission to leave a LEGACY bigger than just myself, to create opportunities and open doors for the ones after me. Never fold or wavier on the goals or promises you set for yourself. Thank God I’m not the same person I was 4 years ago. Thank God for amazing opportunities and the people in my life. With that being said, it’s still 1 more degree and 2 championships that I set out to achieve once I came here. Let’s go get them."
McCollough finished the 2022 season with a career-high 51 tackles and four tackles for loss.
The 51 tackles for McCollough were fourth on the team (McCollough missed two games this season as well).
Tennessee's secondary struggled at times this season, but McCollough is still an important player with a lot of valuable experience. Getting him back for one more season will be huge for the continued development of the Vols' defense under defensive coordinator Tim banks.
