A key Tennessee Vols starter that’s yet to play this season hinted on Monday that he’ll be ready for UT’s next game.

Junior defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs posted on his Instagram story on Monday that it’s “go time”.

The social media post presumably means that Hobbs will be back on the field for the Vols’ upcoming matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks on October 11 (Tennessee is off this weekend).

Getting Daevin Hobbs back will be a big boost for the Tennessee Vols’ defense

Hobbs missed Tennessee’s first five games of the season while dealing with a foot injury that he suffered during fall camp.

The former four-star recruit is a key part of the Volunteers’ defensive line rotation. Getting Hobbs back will instantly give that unit a boost while also providing added depth.

Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner noted during fall camp that Hobbs has been “stunted” by the various injuries he’s dealt with over the last couple of offseasons.

“He’s a long, athletic kid that can bend, that can really run and burst,” said Garner in August when asked about Hobbs. “The things that you really want and wish for Hobbs — he’s been stunted from a power and explosiveness [standpoint] over two offseasons because of shoulder surgeries. You sit there, I’ve always wondered, ‘What if?’

“What would he be had he had those two offseasons? What would he be right now? But he’s a very talented guy. We need for him to take that next step. So far at camp, he’s done a really good job.”

Hobbs played in 13 games for the Vols last season, totaling 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.

Tennessee is starting to get healthy as the Vols enter the thick of SEC play.
