Tennessee Vols vs Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback Carson Beck has passed for 2,488 yards and 17 touchdowns through nine game this season, which is a solid stat line for an SEC quarterback.

Beck, however, has also thrown 12 interceptions this season. All 12 of those interceptions have come in the Georgia's last six games (nine of those interceptions have come in the Bulldogs' last four games).

Turnovers are often why teams lose games in the SEC, which is why it wasn't a surprise that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked this week, ahead of a huge game against the Tennessee Vols, if he's considering a quarterback change.

Smart wasted no time making it clear that Georgia is sticking with Beck

“Absolutely not," said Smart when asked if he's considering a quarterback change. "We’ve got the quarterback we’ve got who’s completely competent, capable, and understanding of our system and gives us the best chance to win.”

Smart was quick to defend Beck after Georgia's loss to Ole Miss last weekend, telling reporters after the game that he thought the redshirt senior quarterback "played good" against the Rebels.

"Carson had his best week of practice," said Smart. "I thought Carson did some good things. He threw some play-action strikes. He stepped up and made some great third-down plays."

"I thought Carson played good, guys," continued Smart. "I thought he played good. I mean, some of those penalties aren’t on him. You know, now some are. He had a couple snafus, too, where he maybe didn’t motion a guy or didn’t shift somebody in as part of the adjustment. And he knows that. But we put a lot on him and he’s playing on the road with crowd noise. But man, he stands in that pocket and converted some third downs and made some really nice plays. I thought he threw the ball away a couple times tonight. It was really good. So I’m not here to be critical of him.”

Former four-star recruits Gunner Stockton (redshirt sophomore), Jaden Rashada (redshirt freshman), and Ryan Puglisi (true freshman) are Georgia's other options at quarterback.
