Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin met with reporters this week for a regularly scheduled media session and he was unsurprisingly asked a couple of questions about the Tennessee Vols.
Kiffin, who served as the head coach at Tennessee in 2009 before leaving for USC, was specifically asked about the photo he recently tweeted of himself from early 2010 the night he resigned from UT.
"I guess in here the other day I said I over-think things, sometimes I under-think things," said Kiffin of the tweet. "There was not a lot (of thought that went into the tweet). A lot of times people just send me something. It was the week of that game and someone sent it, kind of as a joke to me or whatever. I just tweeted it out."
Kiffin was also asked if he watched the end of Tennessee's 52-49 win over Alabama.
"I did, I sent a tweet as they were lining up for the field goal," said Kiffin. "And the guy did jump through to block it, so it was kind of eerie there. The beginning I didn't catch because we were finishing up here with recruiting stuff. Exciting game. That's football. That game goes either way, just like we get in those games like Kentucky. It's just always kind of funny for me to see fans and everybody when a game could go either way, one side misses a kick and one makes it and the whole world has changed."
The comment about the near block on the game-winning field goal being eerie is a reference to the 2009 Tennessee/Alabama game. Kiffin nearly led the Vols to a win over a really good Alabama team in 2009, but Tennessee kicker Daniel Lincoln had his 44-yard game-winning field goal try blocked by Terrance Cody, giving the Crimson Tide a 12-10 win.
Kiffin tweeted "make it this time" before Chase McGrath's 40-yard attempt on Saturday night.
McGrath obliged and despite the kick being tipped (it appeared), he made the attempt and sent Neyland Stadium into a frenzy.
And, presumably, he made Lane Kiffin a happy man.
