Back in early 2010, there wasn't a more unpopular figure among Tennessee Vols fans than Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin, who was the head coach at Tennessee in 2009 before bolting for USC just weeks before national signing day, has worked hard over the last decade to restore his relationship with Vols fans.

The current Ole Miss head coach often tweets positively about the Vols — though he'll also do some trolling — and usually has positive interactions with Tennessee fans.

Kiffin, however, is ultimately still a villain in East Tennessee. And there are plenty of longtime Vols fans who will never forgive him for leaving the UT football program in a mess after he left for the west coast.

This past weekend, Kiffin had a chance to further mend the relationship with Tennessee fans. But instead, he shot the opportunity down.

Country music superstar Morgan Wallen, who happens to be a huge Vols fan, played a concert in Oxford, MS on Saturday night.

Kiffin escorted Wallen to the stage to start the show.

During the show, Wallen told the massive crowd that he tried to get Kiffin to wear a Peyton Manning jersey.

Kiffin, unsurprisingly, declined to wear the jersey.

Kiffin wearing a Tennessee Peyton Manning jersey would've been blasted all over social media. And it probably would've been used by the Vols coaching staff anytime they're in a battle with Ole Miss for a recruit. It was wise for Kiffin to pass on the opportunity to wear the Vols jersey.

It's also a reminder for Tennessee fans who have softened their stance on Kiffin over the years that even though he's a fun follow on Twitter/X.com, he's still a villain in the Volunteer state.
