247Sports ranks all the SEC QBs each week and ahead of week seven, they have Vols QB Hendon Hooker in the top spot.
Alabama QB Bryce Young is ranked No. 2.
Hendon Hooker is now No. 3 on the Heisman odds list according to this week's latest update following his two-touchdown outing against LSU in Week 6. He runs the Tennessee offense under Josh Heupel to near perfection and takes the national spotlight on Saturday when third-ranked Alabama comes to town. He'll meet reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young head to head and whoever plays turnover-free football, likely wins the game. Hooker has 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions this season, giving him 40 scoring tosses in 1.5 seasons with the Vols. He's thrown 239 straight passes without an interception, which is the longest such streak in school history and the sixth longest in SEC history.
Before the start of the season, there was a lot of talk that Hooker could be a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate.
Typically those "dark horse candidates" don't pan out. There have been Tennessee quarterbacks — Jarrett Guarantano at one point — that had the same designation.
Hooker, however, is one of the few delivering on the hype.
Through the first five games of the season, the Vols are undefeated, they have wins over Florida and LSU, and Hooker is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, if not the favorite.
This a dream start to the season for Tennessee and it's understandable if Vols fans have to pinch themselves right now.
