It’s officially time for former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker to find a new home in the NFL.

Hooker, who is entering his third season in the league, was waived by the Detroit Lions on Monday as part of final roster cuts according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The former Vol was battling Kyle Allen for the backup quarterback job in Detroit.

The writing was on the wall for Hooker after an uneven preseason. The North Carolina native struggled during preseason games, failing to lead the Lions on a touchdown drive in any of his appearances.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested over the weekend that Hooker may need a “change of scenery”.

Detroit will likely try to sneak Hooker onto their practice squad, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if a quarterback-needy team takes a chance on the former Vol.

Hooker was a third round selection by the Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft.
