Sometimes, you do whatever you can to try and help your team win a game. That turned out to be the case for both Miami (OH) players and their fans on Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio.

The RedHawks moved to 32-1 on the year with an 89-79 win over SMU in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament. With the win, Miami (OH) will now face off against the Tennessee Vols on Friday in the second round of the tournament.

While the RedHawks’ effort and performance was notable, one moment from a group of fans in attendance stole the show and went viral on social media.

A large group from the Miami (OH) swimming and diving teams ran down the steps behind the basket where SMU was about to shoot free throws. They started yelling and jumping around behind the basket.

Whether or not it had its intended effect of causing SMU’s Corey Washington to miss is debatable. However, regardless, the Mustangs’ guard clanked the first one, causing the students and the crowd to roar in excitement. Washington did make the second to tie the game at 50.

It remains to be seen if the Miami (OH) swimming and diving teams will make the trip to Philadelphia for their school’s matchup with Tennessee. But if they do, then there’s a decent chance they’ll get the opportunity to try and repeat their antics. Tennessee is one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the nation and holds a clear size advantage in the pain with J.P. Estrella, Felix Okpara, Jaylen Carey, and DeWayne Brown II. As such, the Vols could find themselves on the free throw line quite a bit.

The Vols and RedHawks get underway on Friday at 4:25 pm from the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA.
