It was a thrilling start together for Josh Dobbs and the Minnesota Vikings, but all things must come to an end.
Unfortunately, that also includes the Vikings' NFL-best 5-game win streak.
The Broncos rallied from down 17-9 in the second half and clipped the Vikings 21-20. Dobbs finished 20/32 for 223 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also added 21 yards and another score on the ground.
After fumbling on the first drive after taking a crushing hit, the former Tennessee product did his part in the early going. He led a 65-yard touchdown drive that ended with a nifty escape and touchdown throw to TE Josh Oliver.
After the Broncos drew within a point again, Dobbs led the Vikings back into the end zone as he has repeatedly this season – with his legs in dazzling fashion.
Minnesota began again to drive to extend their lead in the third quarter up 17-9. However, RB Alexander Mattison fumbled at the Denver 34, and the Broncos recovered.
Rather than going up by double digits, the Vikings allowed Denver to tack on two field goals to shrink the Minnesota's lead to 17-15.
But Dobbs and the Vikings weren't done. After former Vol Ty Chandler ran 31 yards on a fake punt, Dobbs managed to drive the Vikings into the red zone and extend the lead back to 20-15.
However, with just over 3 minutes left, Denver went 75 yards in 10 plays to grab a 21-20 lead on a Courtland Sutton touchdown with 1:03 left. Minnesota forced a fumble a few plays prior, but Minnesota LB Ivan Pace, Jr. couldn't scoop up a fumble that was right under his arms before the ball crept over the sideline out of bounds.
Dobbs and the Vikings got one more chance but were unable to cross midfield, and a 4th and 25 heave was off target with just seconds left.
Despite the loss, the Vikings still sit in a playoff spot with a game and a half lead over a handful of other teams. And Dobbs and the Vikings offense will get another chance next week against the Bears on Monday Night Football.
