Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz got roasted on social media on Wednesday for sending a Butch Jones-like tweet after the Tigers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Music City Bowl.
Mizzou finished the season with 10-3 record as a result of their win against Iowa. Some fans, however, are labeling the Tigers as the "worst 10 win team in history" because of their surprisingly soft SEC schedule in 2024.
The Tigers lost to the best three SEC teams they played this season — Texas A&M, Alabama, and South Carolina. Missouri's conference wins came against Vanderbilt, Auburn, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, and Arkansas.
After Missouri's win against Iowa, Drinkwitz responded to the idea that the Tigers are the worst 10 win team in history by tweeting "Just make sure you add MusicCityBowl CHAMPIONS to it!!!"
The majority of the replies to that tweet, as you can imagine, were not kind to Drinkwitz.
And understandably so. It was a nice win for the Tigers, and the program should be proud of going 10-3 in 2024, but I'm not sure flexing the program's status as the "Music City Bowl Champions" is the move for a team that was hoping to reach the College Football Playoff in 2024 (especially considering the Tigers' favorable SEC schedule).
It wasn't quite a "five-star hearts" or "championship of life" moment from Drinkwitz (Butch Jones is still the king of cringe…for now), but it was dangerously close.
The best policy for college football coaches when it comes to Twitter/social media is to just avoid it altogether. Nothing good comes from coaches firing off tweets in response to fans.
