The Tennessee Vols are set for another exciting campaign on the diamond. That being said, their hype for 2023 took a bit of a hit on Friday evening after some unfortunate news broke regarding the Vols.

Transfer Maui Ahuna is ineligible to begin the season for Tennessee.

Ahuna was a top-rated transfer during this past off-season. He joined the Vols after playing for Kansas previously. Ahuna is one of the most talented middle infielders in the SEC.

Alas, the eligibility process is currently in a hold-up, so he cannot play to begin the season.

Tennessee made a short statement regarding the situation.

"Maui Ahuna is inactive as we await his eligibility clearance."

The situation is a bit vague, and there is certainly room for frustration for the Vols and their fans. Ahuna decided to transfer to Knoxville over seven months ago.

You would think that this situation would have been handled in full by the time opening day rolled around. Apparently, that is not the case.

Ahuna was the projected starting shortstop for the Vols. He is sure to make a massive impact once he can get on the field for Tennessee.
