The Tennessee Vols’ top 2027 recruiting target is easily five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, a player who looks like he could already be an SEC starter despite being a high school junior.

Gabriel Georges, 6-foot/205 pounds from Chattanooga, TN (he’s originally from Canada), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee. He’s also rated as the No. 13 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

Several programs are in the mix for Gabriel Georges, but it’s the Ohio State Buckeyes that loom as the biggest threat to the Vols in this recruiting battle.

National analyst thinks Ohio State is currently leading for David Gabriel Georges

On3’s Steve Wiltfong believes Ohio State, at least for now, is the leader for the Gabriel Georges.

“Ohio State is in my opinion the leader for five-star David Gabriel-Georges,” wrote Wiltfong.

If Ohio State is “leading”, it’s probably not by much. Gabriel Georges knows he’s high on the Vols’ recruiting board, and he likes what Tennessee is building under Josh Heupel.

“I feel like Tennessee is building and bringing in top players that will make an immediate impact,” said Gabriel Georges to On3 recently. “And they made it very clear that they see me the same way and that I am their top priority for 2027.”

Tennessee has done an excellent job in this recruiting battle and is very much a threat to land the five-star running back, regardless of whether Ohio State currently leads.

“As good a position as you can be in at this point for a recruitment that is several months out from having a decision,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price in December of where the Vols stand for Gabriel Georges. “Tennessee and Ohio State — I know he lowered it to eight — but it’s really those top two teams. We’ll see if somebody else can get involved. It does not feel that way as of right now. It feels like those two teams are destined to battle it out until a decision is made sometime in the spring or summer.”

We’ll have a much better idea of where this recruiting battle is heading after Gabriel Georges takes his official visits.
