The last month of the 2024 college football regular season is upon us, which means College Football Playoff talk is about to heat up.
Earlier this week, Fox Sports' Joel Klatt detailed the SEC programs that he believes are still in the mix to reach the playoff. And not only did he include the Tennessee Vols, but he also listed the Volunteers as one of three programs, along with Georgia and Texas, that he believes can lose another game in the regular season and still make the playoff.
“Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, they’re in a position right now where I believe they could still lose, even in the regular season, not make the SEC championship game, and based on what they’ve done already this season, I believe that they would go to the College Football Playoff,” said Klatt. “They would be a top 12 team, and I think we’ll see that reflected in the in the original, or new, playoff rankings that we’ll get next week.”
Not everyone in the national media feels the same as Klatt. Several outlets, including ESPN, The Athletic, and On3, have had analysts suggest that Tennessee could be left out of the playoff if they don't run the table in November to finish 11-1.
Honestly, it's a bit early to know for sure how things will play out for the Vols if they drop another game. There's currently a bit of a logjam when it comes to teams with one or two losses. The picture will be a bit clearer once the month of November wraps up.
The secret to quickly unlocking Nico Iamaleava’s talent has been discovered, but Tennessee might not be willing to do it
Kinda a catch 22 for the Vols
