Pickell gave the massive Tennessee fan base plenty of love, too. The On3 host described the Vols fan base as "second to none" and "as rabid as any fan base in America".
"Tennessee, man, they are as passionate as any other fan base," said Pickell. "And that sounds like a pretty cliché statement to make, but if you don't believe me, they beat Alabama [and] took down the goal posts. Most places will take down the goal posts if it's a big win if it's an intense fan base — especially an SEC school. Tennessee then proceeded to take those goal posts out of the stadium and throw them into a river. Do you know how outside of your mind you have to be to storm the field, take a goal post, and then put it in a body of water? Tennessee is second to none. The Vol Navy is second to none. They are intense."
"Tennessee, as passionate, as rabid as any fan base in America," added Pickell.
College football is full of passionate fan bases — it's a huge part of what makes the sport so great. And there are plenty of arguments about which fan base is "the best" (obviously a subjective argument).
Every major college fan base will claim to be the most passionate. But while there will never be a way to objectively crown a fan base as the most passionate, one thing is certain — Tennessee's fans will always be at the forefront of that debate.
Peyton Manning might avoid what would’ve been a tough situation as a former Vol
Good news for Peyton, bad news for the rest of college football
