Rivals.com made an encouraging recruiting prediction this week for the Tennessee Vols.
Adam Gorney and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.com predicted on Thursday that Tennessee will secure a commitment from 2026 four-star edge rusher Anthony Jones.
From Rivals.com: Jones has Tennessee, UCLA, and Washington in his lead group of contenders and is coming off a visit back to Rocky Top in January. Jones will get to all three final programs this spring and again in June before locking in a decision, but there's a sense that the Volunteers have been leading the way since his most recent visit to campus. Tennessee's recent success on defense and as the NFL Draft nears has only further propelled the Vols' stock with Jones.
Jones, 6-foot-5/240 lbs from Irvine, CA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 22 edge rusher and the No. 26 player in the state of California.
Scouting report via 247Sports: Intriguing defensive lineman with a lot of next level traits. Has a long 6-5, 240 pound frame with close to an 80” wingspan and shows the ability to play inside or outside. A natural edge rusher who can use his length and get-off to win one on one battles. Took reps at tackle at the Under Armour Next Camp in March and showed he could win in tight spaces with quickness and hands. Has an aggressive edge to him and plays with a motor. Has the athleticism to run down plays from outside his area and is still just scratching the surface of where we think his game can get to in a few years. Has the frame to easily add another 25 pounds or so and shows the positional versatility to play in multiple schemes. Easy high major Power 4 prospect with an NFL upside.
UCLA and Washington are also in the mix for Jones. The Bruins are likely the bigger threat to the Vols in this recruiting battle due to proximity (UCLA is about 90 minutes north of Irvine).
We'll find out in the coming months if Tennessee can hold off UCLA and Washington and win the battle for Jones.
