CBS Sports named a potential Heisman Trophy contender this week for each preseason top 25 college football program and they went with an interesting choice for the Tennessee Vols.

College football writer Shehan Jeyarajah went with UCLA transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar as his choice for Tennessee's most likely Heisman Trophy contender.

From CBS Sports: The Heisman is a story award, and few teams are more desperate for a story than Tennessee. The Volunteers parted ways with quarterback Nico Iamaleava after a dramatic spring, and essentially completed a trade with UCLA for ex-App State quarterback Joey Aguilar. The senior threw for nearly 7,000 yards and more than 50 touchdowns over the past two seasons. If he can put together a strong year — and cut down on his 24 interceptions in two seasons — the nation will quickly fall in love with Aguilar.

There's no guarantee that Aguilar will even start for the Vols in 2025. The former UCLA quarterback will have to beat out redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and true freshman George MacIntyre for the job this fall.

College football can be incredibly unpredictable, so while it's unlikely that a Tennessee quarterback will win the Heisman, it's not out of the question that one of UT's quarterbacks could play well enough to at least be in the conversation.

And if that happens, it will undoubtedly mean that Tennessee had a hell of a season.
