247Sports is expecting Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton to enter the month of October with plenty of buzz.
The national sports media outlet made some predictions for each SEC program this week and their prediction for Tennessee is that Milton will enter October with some "Heisman buzz".
From 247Sports: As long as Tennessee with five wins, including a pair of SEC victories over Florida and South Carolina, the Vols are going to be inside the top 10 with a high-powered offense and quarterback garnering a spot in the early Heisman conversation. By all accounts, Milton's looked great during fall camp and his transition from Hendon Hooker's backup to the starring role has been a smooth one. After finishing 11-2 last fall, getting to nine with a chance at 10 in 2023 will be another positive step for the program.
Some folks might think that one month of college football won't be enough to determine who should or shouldn't be receiving Heisman buzz.
Tennessee's regular season, however, will be almost halfway over by the end of September as the Vols will play five of their 12 regular season games before the calendar flips to October.
And with two of those games coming against Florida (on the road) and South Carolina (a home game where the Vols will be looking to avenge last year's loss in Columbia), there should be a big enough sample size to determine if Milton is worthy of Heisman buzz.
If the Vols exit September with a 5-0 record, Tennessee will likely be knocking on the door of the top five (and depending on what happens ahead of them in the rankings, they may be inside the top five if they go undefeated in September). And if that's the case, then Milton will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about players in the nation — which includes the Heisman buzz that 247Sports mentioned.
