Earlier this week, news broke that the Tennessee Vols are hiring former Oklahoma Sooners/NFL quarterback Landry Jones to serve as an offensive analyst.

Jones played at Oklahoma when Vols head coach Josh Heupel was on the Sooners' coaching staff as a quarterbacks/offensive coordinator.

This will be Jones' first job as a coach.

The former Oklahoma quarterback is actually leaving a very non-football related career to join Tennessee's coaching staff.

Jones joined The Family Business podcast during the 2024 college football regular season and he noted that he was working in the roofing business in the Oklahoma/Texas area.

"I'm doing roofing right now," said Jones.

Jones mentioned that he had recently taken a job with a different roofing company.

"The company I work for is called Apple Roofing," explained Jones. "They're just like a big national company. I started working with them probably a couple of months ago. I had been working for a different roofing company before that and then they brought me on."

Jones will go from figuring out slopes on roofs to helping the Vols maximize their offensive output.

It's quite a career change for Jones. And even though it sounds like he had a good thing going in the roofing business, I'm sure he'll feel like he's back at home on the football field even though he'll be trading Oklahoma crimson for Volunteer orange.
