A player entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday that the Tennessee Vols absolutely need to pursue.

Wake Forest defensive lineman Rondell Bothroyd has entered the portal according to multiple reports.

Bothroyd, a former three-star recruit who signed with Wake Forest during the 2018 recruiting cycle, is a Connecticut native who has produced at a high level the last couple of seasons.

Over the last two seasons, Bothroyd has 14 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss. He also has 93 total tackles.

Tennessee has some nice young pass-rushing talent on the roster, but Bothroyd could be a guy who the Vols instantly plug into their defensive end/outside linebacker rotation.

There's nothing more important on the defensive side of the ball than getting pressure on the quarterback. Bothroyd could be an instant game-changer for the Vols in 2023 — especially with Byron Young heading to the NFL.

Just imagine how good Bothroyd could be after getting coached up by Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner (that would be the Vols' main recruiting pitch if they pursue the talented pass rusher).

With Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, and Cedric Tillman off to the NFL, the Vols will need their defense to step up in 2023 if they're going to win at least 10 games again. Bothroyd is a player who would undoubtedly make Tennessee's defense a lot better.
