There's reportedly "buzz" around the Tennessee Vols for one of the nation's top 2025 defensive backs.

On3's Chad Simmons updated 2025 four-star cornerback Daryus Dixson's recruitment this week and it sounds like Tennessee is very much in the mix to land the California native.

"Tennessee and Washington have shown a lot of interest and Dixson has locked in official visits with both schools," noted Simmons. "There is some buzz around the Vols when talking to people close to Dixson’s recruitment. He is aiming to make a decision later this summer, but he won’t rush that."

Dixson, 6-foot-/180 lbs from Santa Ana, CA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 10 cornerback in the nation and the No. 6 player in the state of California. He's also rated as the No. 77 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

Scouting report via 247Sports: Long, reactionary corner with a big web. Pushing 6 feet with excellent length, as evidenced by verified 6-6+ wingspan. Not sure he’s an elite athlete — marginal speed figures with 11.48 and 11.52 100-meter reps — but moves well out on the perimeter in pads. Seems to have produced some takeaways as a junior. Physical specs and play style likely fit a Cover 3 or Cover 1 system. Projects as a potential high-major multi-year starter who could become a valued NFL Draft commodity.

Tennessee has plenty of competition for Dixson with programs like Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State also in the mix.

One thing going for the Vols, however, is a connection that Dixson has to UT's current roster — Dixson attends Mater Dei High School, the same school that Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy attended.

McCoy and Dixson obviously didn't overlap at Mater Dei, but it's still an important connection as it gives Dixson a player from his hometown that can give him the inside scoop on what it's like to leave the west coast for Tennessee.
