How early will Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft?

That's a question that many Vols fans, and college football fans in general, are asking ahead of the draft in late April.

Milton, who started his college career at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee, has incredible arm strength and ideal NFL size.

But the Florida native has struggled at times with his consistency, which is why NFL scouts, according to ESPN, think the earliest that Milton will be selected in the draft is in the middle of the fifth round.

ESPN spoke to evaluators at the Senior Bowl last week in Mobile, AL and those evaluators feel like the earliest draft range for Milton is the middle of round five. They think the latest draft range for Milton is as a priority undrafted free agent. The most likely draft range for Milton is round seven.

From ESPN: "He makes all the throws with the same velocity, and some easy completions get away from him," said one AFC South scout who saw Milton play several times at Tennessee.

Evaluators said they need to see better decision-making from Milton, particularly when coverages are rolled or changed at the snap. In those situations, he tended to default and leave the pocket when, in some cases, he might not have had to.

Evaluators polled said Milton's physical stature and his arm strength, however, would be enough for a team to draft him on Day 3. Milton completed 64.7% of his passes with 20 touchdowns and five picks in his final season.

Milton is going to get a shot in the NFL. His arm strength, speed, and size are going to intrigue NFL teams. And for all the talk about his consistency, his stat line from 2023, his only full year as a starter at Tennessee, was still solid — 2,813 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 299 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns.

There's too much talent there not to take a chance on Milton.
