The Tennessee Vols are set to receive a visit in early April from 2025 four-star quarterback Malik Washington.

Washington, 6-foot-4/200 lbs from Severn, MD, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 14 quarterback in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland.

Tennessee already has a commitment from their top 2025 quarterback recruiting target. Five-star quarterback George MacIntyre committed to the Vols back in January. MacIntyre is the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 10 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

I'm sure Vols head coach Josh Heupel would love to have as many talented quarterbacks as possible on the roster. But with 2024 four-star signee Jake Merklinger already at Tennessee, and MacIntyre coming to Knoxville in 2025, it seems incredibly unlikely that Washington will land at Tennessee.

Earlier this year, Washington didn't include the Vols among his top six schools, which seems to suggest that Tennessee isn't very high on his list.

Maybe Washington just wants to enjoy a weekend in Knoxville while checking out Tennessee. Whatever the reason for the visit, it's doubtful it leads to a commitment.

But the visit can still be beneficial for both sides. In this era of NIL deals and the NCAA transfer portal, you never know when certain paths may cross again. A connection made during the recruiting process could lead to a transfer addition down the road.
