The Miami Dolphins are in the market for a new defensive coordinator after mutually parting ways with Vic Fangio this week. And ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler thinks a former Tennessee Vols graduate assistant could be a good fit for the job.

Fowler pointed out former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley as an option that makes sense to replace Fangio in Miami.

Staley was a graduate assistant at Tennessee in 2012. He was key in Cordarrelle Patterson's decision to transfer to UT for the 2012 season (Staley and Patterson were at Hutchinson Community College together the previous season).

From ESPN: One name to watch here is former Chargers coach Brandon Staley. He's among the top coordinator options available and is a personnel fit in Miami. He worked closely with Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey while both were with the Rams.

Dolphins defensive backs coach Renaldo Hill was Staley's defensive coordinator in Los Angeles for two seasons. The duo also worked together with the Denver Broncos.

Staley also nearly overlapped with Dolphins safeties coach Joe Kasper at John Carroll University. Staley left after the 2016 season while Kasper joined John Carroll's staff for the 2017 season.

While Staley may not have worked out as a head coach in Los Angeles, he should be an in-demand option as a defensive coordinator. The former Tennessee graduate assistant led the Los Angeles Rams to the No. 1 defense in the NFL (points allowed and yards allowed) in 2020 in his lone season as the franchise's defensive coordinator.
