Back during the NFL preseason, a clip of New York Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt beating New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner on a route made the rounds on social media.

Hyatt, who won the Biletnikoff Award while playing for the Tennessee Vols in 2022, blew past Gardner on a play that ended up being an incompletion.

Gardner gave Hyatt plenty of cushion on that play, but the former Vol put a nice move on the superstar cornerback.

The Jets cornerback didn't love all of the hoopla that accompanied the incomplete pass. On Sunday, Gardner admitted that the play provided some motivation for the Jets' Week 8 matchup against the Giants.

And that motivation apparently worked. The Jets held the Giants to -9 passing yards in a 13-10 win on Sunday.

After the game, Gardner talked some trash, but he also showed Hyatt some respect.

"I'm not going to lie, this is a game that I wanted kinda bad," said Gardner. "Because anytime I went on Twitter, I'm seeing an incomplete pass that's like a big Super Bowl winning play. It's like, why [are] they doing all of this over an incomplete pass."

"I couldn't wait to go against them," added Gardner. "It wasn't just the thing with Hyatt — that was the incomplete [pass]. It wasn't just a thing for him, it was just them in general. Because he's (Hyatt) a good receiver, he's going to be pretty good."

Gardner then asked a reporter how many passing yards the Giants had in the loss before adding "we did our job".

Hyatt has flashed his elite abilities this season and he's proven that he's not just a one-trick pony. But he's not in an ideal situation right now with the Giants. Offensive line play has hurt the team. And quarterback Daniel Jones, who is injured right now (as is backup Tyrod Taylor, who was injured during the Jets game), isn't exactly Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow out there.

The former Vol has a bright future ahead. And it's clear that Gardner, arguably the best cornerback in the league, thinks Hyatt will be a good NFL wide receiver.
