On Saturday night, head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame football are set to host the rival Navy Midshipmen, and the team must continue its winning streak to help solidify its playoff standing. While this recruiting weekend won’t be a massive one, at least in comparison to the USC and Texas A&M ones, the Fighting Irish are still set to host an important group of top targets. That includes players in each of the 2026, 2027, and 2028 recruiting classes.

One of the more interesting players who will be making his first trip is 2027 Orlando (Fla.) The First Academy cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. The 5-10, 185-pound cover man is an extremely gifted cornerback who has the physical profile to project favorably either as a field or nickel corner on the next level. The interesting part is that Whitfield actually just committed to the University of Tennessee in the middle of this past October. Despite being committed to the Volunteers, it appears this is a trip he wanted to make.

Even more interesting is that Whitfield does not currently hold a scholarship offer from the University of Notre Dame, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see that change this weekend. Anytime you get an SEC recruit to come check out South Bend, it isn’t a bad thing. It will be interesting to see how well Whitfield meshes with the staff when he gets on campus, and if the Irish choose to push for him.

From a recruiting ranking perspective, Whitfield is very underrated as of now. He is currently ranked as a three-star by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the Florida native currently sits as the No. 428 overall player, No. 43 cornerback, and No. 43 player in the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class.

Despite those lower rankings, a healthy list of prominent programs has continued to pursue Whitfield. Outside of the Volunteers, he also holds offers from Oklahoma, Miami, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, UNC, Kentucky, Illinois, Baylor, Iowa State, UCF, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Wake Forest, among others.
