Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin sounded like a guy this week who's unhappy with his current situation in Oxford.
The former Tennessee Vols head coach went on a mini-rant during a media session where he basically lambasted the Ole Miss fan base for not showing up at games.
Here's the clip of his comments:
"You run out of the tunnel and it looks like a high school game playing in a college stadium," said a visibly annoyed Kiffin.
"I'm worried about what I can control," added Kiffin. "I've tried social media in here for two years. We'll worry about what we can control and that's getting our players ready to play."
Kiffin's reaction to the crowd at Ole Miss games is drastically different from what we heard from Tennesee head coach Josh Heupel on Saturday after the Vols beat the Gators in front of 101,915 fans.
Maybe Kiffin saw the scene in Knoxville this weekend and was envious. It certainly feels like that could be the case.
Either way, it's clear that Kiffin isn't thrilled these days at Ole Miss. And considering his history, and the way he's complained about NIL deals, it wouldn't be shocking if he has an exit strategy in place. Maybe that means he'll be interested in the Auburn job, or possibly leaving the SEC for a place like Nebraska (Kiffin was born in Lincoln). You never know when it comes to Kiffin.
But if I was an Ole Miss fan, I'd have some concerns over whether or not Kiffin is "all in". I'd also keep an eye on flights out of Oxford in the coming months. After watching last year's coaching carousel (Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame for LSU and Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC), it wouldn't come as a surprise if Kiffin leaves Ole Miss for another Power-5 program.
