The recruiting circuit never sleeps, and Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are still at it.
In the middle of their bye week, the Ducks are apparently closing in on a key recruitment flip that would see them snatch a major recruit at a position group that figures to be a huge need moving forward.
Douglas Utu, a 6'4" 315 lbs offensive lineman from powerhouse Bishop Gorman, is a four star recruit that has been committed to Tennessee since June 24. Oregon apparently hasn't stopped pursuing him.
On3 has gone so far as to predict that Utu will flip his commitment to Oregon, who has been involved with Utu for a long time. Oregon was one of the first programs to offer Utu, which they did during the summer of 2021, before he was even in high school.
Offensive line will be undergoing a huge overhaul after the season, as six of the top seven offensive linemen on the Oregon depth chart will be gone after this year. Utu profiles as a tackle, and will be a four-year starter at Bishop Gorman by the time he graduates. That's a lot of high school experience against top competition, and if he ends up committing to Oregon, he'll have a chance to compete for starting reps as a true freshman, along with current 4-star Oregon commit Ziyare Addison.
Oregon is currently ranked 8th in the country for their 2025 recruiting class, but they'll look to finish strong with Utu and other flip targets throughout the season before arriving at the early signing period in December. Some late additions could push Oregon to a top-5 recruiting class, a trend that they're looking to continue.
