Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton isn't the only former Vol that's hoping to make the New England Patriots' 53-man roster this fall.
Milton, a sixth round selection by the Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, was joined in New England this offseason by former Tennessee tight end Jacob Warren.
Warren, who was teammates with Milton for three seasons at Tennessee, was signed by the Patriots after the 2024 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent.
The Tennessee native has an uphill battle ahead of him to make New England's 53-man roster. After all, the odds are always stacked against undrafted free agents — especially at the tight end position (where the learning curve is a little steeper than it is as other positions).
That's likely part of the reason why the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed currently has Warren not making the Patriots' 53-man roster out of training camp.
Kyed has Jaheim Bell, Hunter Henry, and Austin Hooper making New England's roster over Warren.
Even if Warren doesn't make the 53-man roster immediately out of camp, it doesn't mean he won't eventually get a shot to contribute in the NFL. Warren might have to put in some time on various practices squads before he gets a chance. But if he stays at it, he should eventually get his shot. Warren has good size, he's smart, and he has plenty of SEC experience.
