There's been some speculation this offseason that the New England Patriots could trade quarterback Joe Milton this offseason.

Milton, a former Tennessee Vols quarterback who was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, made quite an impression during his lone start for New England last season.

The former Vol started the Patriots' regular season finale against the Buffalo Bills and played extremely well. Milton passed for 241 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a touchdown in the 23-16 win against the Bills.

The Patriots are committed to Drake Maye, a first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, as their starting quarterback. While I'm sure they'd love to keep Milton on the roster as a backup option, his trade value after that start against Buffalo might be as a high as it'll ever be.

New England head coach Mike Vrabel, who was hired by the Patriots to replace Jerod Mayo earlier this year, was asked by MassLive about the Milton rumors this week.

Vrabel didn't reveal the Patriots' plans, but he didn't rule out a trade, either.

“I think it’s a little early to have that conversation right now as far as trading players,” said Vrabel. “I would say that anything that we could do within reason to strengthen our roster we would have to entertain – outside of I would say of a few players.”

“I’ve talked to Joe. I’ve reached out. We’ve had conversations,” added Vrabel. “I think that’s too soon to tell (an impression)….He took advantage of his opportunity at the end of the season, which is all we can ask of any player, is that they’re able to do that.”

It sounds like the Patriots aren't planning to send a signal to the rest of the league that they want to trade Milton. But if a team calls the Patriots with an offer that's too good to turn down, then we could see Milton get moved this offseason. It's hard to predict what will happen because it depends on how other teams value Milton, but there's certainly a possibility that the former Vol is traded before the start of the 2025 season.
